Vice President for Academic Affairs

Siena Heights University (, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). Reporting to the President the VPAA serves as the chief academic officer of the University and sits on the President’s Executive Committee of Administration (ECA). The VPAA works with the President, ECA members, faculty, and staff to ensure the mission-focus and quality of the academic programs while supporting the development of a strong and innovative faculty. The new VPAA will be adaptable and proactive with regards to the ever-changing landscape of higher education, be a transformational leader open to innovation both in program development and modalities of program delivery, one who will foster diversity, equity, and inclusion among faculty, staff, and students, and provide mentorship and support to faculty and staff development.  The VPAA works with members across the University community to meet the goals of the University’s strategic plan in support of its mission. The selected candidate must have:

  • an earned doctorate (or equivalent);

  • knowledge and understanding of accreditation criteria and processes;

  • basic project management skills;

  • an understanding of the student profile and unique needs of traditional, post-traditional, and graduate students;

  • a demonstrated record of progressive accomplishment of excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and administrative leadership in higher education;

  • outstanding communication, organizational, and leadership skills; and

  • hold an appreciation and respect for the Adrian Dominican Sisters, their Mission and Core Values.

Founded in 1919 and sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Siena Heights is a Catholic university whose mission is to assist people to become more competent, purposeful, and ethical through a teaching and learning environment which respects the dignity of all. Enrolling a diverse community of traditional-age and working adult students, the University is a co-educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission that was founded in the liberal arts tradition, offering over 100 associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs.  With an enrollment of almost 1200 students on its Adrian campus and over 2300 students at all campuses, the University has a 12:1 student to faculty ratio and more than 120 full-time exceptional faculty.  Siena’s main campus in Adrian, Michigan is situated on 55 acres with 17 buildings; SHU Global, our state and nationally-ranked online program, has 8 satellite campuses (in SouthfieldDearbornBenton HarborMonroeBattle CreekKalamazooLansing, and Jackson).
