Dean of the School of Business and Economics

Moravian University is located in the center of historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. A master’s comprehensive university, Moravian seeks an energetic, inclusive, and collaborative leader to serve as our first dean of the School of Business and Economics. The School of Business and Economics presently includes undergraduate programs in accounting, business management, economics, finance, marketing, sports management, and international management, as well as the following graduate degrees:  MBA, Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Data Analytics, Master of Science in Human Resource Management, and graduate certificates.  Programs within the School of Business and Economics are accredited by the ACBSP. The Dean is expected to periodically teach one course at the university in an area of their expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employs a vision to build a successful School of Business within a dynamic masters comprehensive university with a liberal arts mission.
  • Prioritizes equity and inclusion, recruitment, and retention in the student experience.
  • Fosters a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Responsibility for fiscal and academic planning to achieve school, college, and University goals.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities for revenue generation through enrollment growth and external funding, coordinated with the VP for Advancement, and appropriate expense control and management.
  • Ensures the successful hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and evaluation of faculty and staff within  the School of Business and Economics.
  • Serves as the spokesperson for the School of Business and Economics on and off campus for all school curricula.
  • Collaborates with other Deans, the Provost, other University leadership, and other colleges/universities and organizations to expand recruitment efforts and to provide educational solutions for and partnerships with the wider community.
  • A leadership role in the University’s outreach to the greater Lehigh Valley area and broader community through curricular and co-curricular programs as well as initiatives outside of the School of Business of Economics.

Qualifications:

  • a doctoral degree in an appropriate field (e.g., economics, finance, management, marketing);
  • a minimum of five years of experience as a dean, assistant/associate dean or department chair;
  • rank of full professor and prior success in obtaining tenure;
  • evidence of successful supervision of staff and leadership of faculty;
  • evidence of a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • demonstrated experience with business accreditation;
  • documented proficiency in effective strategic planning and collaborative leadership;
  • independent problem solving and mentorship
  • a history of working with corporations and their management leaders;
  • an understanding and demonstrated success of the changing world of business, and the ability to incorporate that understanding within the School of Business and Economics;
  • superb communication skills; and
  • a demonstrated track record of working within diverse communities and embracing interculturalism from the broadest possible perspective.
