President

The Board of Trustees of Ursuline College invites nominations and applications for the position of President of the College, with the successful candidate to assume office on July 1, 2024. The Board seeks an accomplished, energetic creative executive with substantial experience as a transformational leader, preferably in a higher education setting, willing and able to confront and lead substantial structural change to carry on the commitment to advance the identity, mission and vision of the College.  The President is the primary liaison between the Board and the administration and is responsible for executing a strategic plan in alignment with the mission of the College.

The Mission of Ursuline College is to offer holistic education that transforms students for service, leadership and professional excellence by providing undergraduate and graduate programs that foster lifelong learning and personal wisdom in an environment characterized by a Catholic and Ursuline heritage, women-centered learning, values-based curricula, and inclusive, global perspective.

Founded in 1871 as the first Catholic women’s college in Ohio and one of the first in the United States, Ursuline remains a Catholic, a liberal arts, and an historically women-focused institution.  It is located in an eastern suburb of Cleveland and sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland. The College enjoys the richness of an inclusive community, with more than a third of the student body from underrepresented groups. Under an academic structure with two Schools, Arts, Sciences and Professional Studies and The Breen School of Nursing and Health Professions, the HLC accredited College offers 23 undergraduate majors, 15 Master’s degrees, including a new Physician Assistant program, numerous undergraduate and post-baccalaureate certificates, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).  A member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II, the College hosts 11 women-athletic teams, plus a range of student activities as opportunities for student development and leadership.

Requirements for the position include the following: the credentials, character traits, and experience appropriate for today’s college president; respect for the founding sponsor’s traditions and charism; commitment to the mission of Catholic higher education, focusing on the learning needs of women; and a successful record of leadership, vision and execution in a senior administrative role and in building relationships with all constituencies (internal and external). The candidate will have significant experience in financial management of a complex operation; demonstrated success in a fundraising role; experience in the execution of a strategic plan; a commitment to inclusion and diversity; and an understanding of the technological needs and emerging trends in higher education.
