The Board of Trustees of Marywood University, Scranton, PA, (marywood.edu) is now inviting inquiries, nominations, and applications for the Position of President. A visionary and entrepreneurial leader will continue the forward trajectory that is positioning Marywood as a strong leader in the region. The thirteenth President will be strategic in planning, innovative in thinking, and transformational in defining future enterprises.

The University was founded in 1915 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, PA, to educate the daughters of coal miners and factory workers who had little chance of experiencing the power of education. It was the first Catholic women’s college in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Today is it a Catholic coeducational university whose considerable Professional Programs are supported by the Liberal Arts in a welcoming and safe educational environment. Marywood University prepares students to seek sustainable solutions for the common good and educates global citizens to live responsibly in an interdependent world.

Marywood University offers Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degree programs in addition to a variety of professional certifications. The University has a number of Accelerated Masters Programs that permit students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in 5 years and a number of dual graduate degrees that help to reduce time to degree completion. The University’s most prominent professional programs include Architecture, Aviation, Construction Management, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Counseling and Psychology, Education, and Art and Music Therapy among others. The MBA program is offered online to students in China and Egypt and the Office of Global Education welcomes large cohorts of students from South Korea to campus each semester to participate in practicum and clinical training in local hospitals and clinics.

Marywood University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and is also accredited by multiple professional programs. Marywood is a NCAA Division III University with more than 20 sports teams and a competitive esports team. The University is a member of the Atlantic East Conference.

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the University and is accountable to the Board of Trustees. Eligibility requirements include the following: a Catholic who has respect for the charism and mission of the University’s founders and sponsors, the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, PA and who will embrace the vision and core values of Marywood University. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree, credentials and experience appropriate for a 21st century university, a commitment to Catholic social teaching and social justice, a proven record of vision and leadership in various administrative and professional settings, a proven record of building relationships with various constituencies within a university, significant understanding and experience in the financial management of a complex organization, demonstrated understanding of fundraising and the activities of university advancement, experience in strategic planning, demonstrated understanding and experience in shared governance, commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging, significant knowledge of the emerging trends in cyber security and compliance in all areas of university operations, a willingness to engage in developing partnerships with other sectors, such as health care, industry, and business, an understanding of the evolving nature of higher education and the role of recruitment, enrollment, and retention in daily operations.
