As an innovative and forward-thinking leader, the President is responsible for providing strategic and entrepreneurial leadership to ensure continuation of the exemplary success in all academic and operational areas. The University was founded in 1939 as an institution of higher learning for women and sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, New Jersey. Caldwell is a private, Catholic, co-educational university in the Dominican tradition that transforms students’ lives by preparing them through the liberal arts and professional studies to think critically, pursue truth and contribute to a just society.
The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the University and is accountable to the Board of Trustees and the Members of the sponsoring congregation. Requirements for the position include the following: a Catholic who has respect for the founding sponsors’ traditions and charism; an earned doctorate preferred; and credentials, character traits and experience appropriate for a 21st-century university president. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of leadership and vision in a senior administrative role and in building relationships with all constituencies. The candidate will have significant experience in financial management of a complex operation; demonstrated success in a fundraising role; experience in strategic planning; an appreciation for diversity and inclusivity; and an understanding of the technological needs/emerging trends in higher education. The President must be an advocate for liberal arts and professional program education; demonstrate a significant disposition toward fairness and transparency in governance and compliance; and, most importantly, have a commitment to the mission and values of the University.
