The week between Christmas and New Year is a perfect space to reflect and refocus. This week, why not opt for a holiday gift for yourself? Take some time to update your LinkedIn profile. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often don’t make space for upkeep. However, revising your LinkedIn profile doesn’t have to be a chore. Here are three steps to get it fresh and ready to propel you forward in 2022.

1. Check for changes. Check over the basics. Is your email address current? Are there any new achievements, awards, or memberships to add? Is your photo professional and recent? Do you use a uniform voice throughout? Spend just a few minutes looking at the details and the page as a whole.

2. Distill it down. One of the highest impact tasks you can accomplish is to craft an “About” statement on your LinkedIn profile. If you’re short on time, focus on this. What do you want people to know and remember about you? Many people won’t bother to sift through your work history and accomplishments listed below. This space is your elevator pitch to make an impression and help them understand the essence of your personal brand.

3. Seek out new connections. Most effectively used, LinkedIn is a space for collaboration. Are there valued colleagues you are not connected to that you can add to your network? Think through new connections you’ve worked with recently and also consider colleagues you haven’t talked with in a while that you’d like to reconnect with. Add a personal note to each request sharing that you’d love to hear what they’ve been up to.
