In honor of Halloween, we bring spine-tingling tales of scary interview gaffes that will haunt you long after the interview.
1. “When are you due?” It is never appropriate to comment on a person’s appearance during an interview. Simply do not comment on a person’s weight or draw attention to a perceived baby bump. This poorly considered question is a guaranteed way not to get the job.
2. “What an idiot!” You are interviewing with a company because you are ready for a change in your career. However, badmouthing your current supervisor reflects poorly on you and may alienate colleagues who know them.
3. “To Whom It May Concern:” You can compose the best cover letter of your career, but if you address your salutation to Company X and mail it to Company Y, your chances are sunk. Cover letter mix ups make our list because they are horrifyingly common.
