People skills have always been foundational to success. With the increased role that AI will play in the workplace, interpersonal skills will only grow in importance. In a recent article in Harvard Business Review, Palena Neale writes about the centrality of empathy and shares practical steps to cultivate it. She notes that empathy begins by listening with intention:
“Be a questioner. Empathetic leaders demonstrate interest in others and ask questions. Open-ended perspective-seeking questions facilitate our thinking and enhance mutual understanding. For example: What’s this experience been like for you? How have you been managing this? What works? What doesn’t?”
